What makes a great logo?

Some people think that a great logo is subjective. You either like it or you don’t. This may be true to a certain extent, as everyone has their opinions, however, a logo must meet some objective criteria to be successful. Things like the fact that the logo must be reproducible at small business card size, and that it needs to look just as good in one colour as it does in full colour. Here is a web page that looks at a few prime examples of what are good logos and what are not so good. I think it is a really good primer on the basics of good logo design.
