I was out and about the other day when I came across an old antique with a logo that I'd not seen before. It was an historical logo for "The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co.". I was intrigued and put together a logo gallery of A&P's logos.
I remember shopping at A&P as a child with my mom. Once upon a time, A&P dominated the supermarket landscape with a whopping 16,000 stores back in the 1930s. Now, they are sitting at about 429 stores. None of the existing stores are in Canada where I'm from. A&P sold its Canadian operations to Metro Inc. back in 2005 and Metro began phasing out the A&P brand name in 2008.

How about you? Do you have fond A&P memories? Does the sight of it's logo inspire fond memories? Let me know, leave a comment below.
Thanks,

Yes, I do have fond memories of everything Great A&P. I particularly enjoyed last year during the 150th anniversary celebration. I collected all kinds of Great A&P mementos, a replica of an 1920′s style delivery truck, tins of Great A&P coffee, peppermint puffs, strawberry preserves, seasonings, and to die for chocolate chip cookies.
Also a 150 anniversary reusable shopping bag made a terrific collector’s item as well.
A&P for me meant everything Jane Parker, Ann Page, Penguin ice cream, the creamiest ice creams I ever enjoyed, sunnyfield cereals, sunnybrook eggs and butter, Cap’n John seafood. And those melt in your mouth Jane Parker cinnamon donuts.
I could eat a dozen in one sitting. And of course, the aromas of Bokar, Red Circle and Eight O’clock coffee from the coffee bean grinders.
The best food store ever was Great A&P.
Wow, you’re a hardcore A&P Fan! Now that’s effective branding. Thanks for the comment.
